B&R Takes the Plunge for Special Olympics Maryland

On most freezing winter days, engineers at B&R just grab an extra cup of coffee to get through their day. This past Friday, January 23, however, they took a more invigorating approach to jump-start their weekend. Mechanical and electrical engineers, marketing, human resources and even the front desk receptionist donned black Under Armour work polos and ties, some grabbing their briefcases and rolls of drawings, and plunged, fully-clothed, into the 32-degree waters of the Chesapeake Bay at Sandy Point State Park – all for Special Olympics Maryland.

This year’s plunge, organized by the Maryland State Police, was the first year B&R participated in the Corporate Plunge, which began two years ago, proving that B&R is truly the type of firm “willing to go all in” for a good cause. The firm raised a total of $4,586 for Special Olympics Maryland, placing fourth overall in the corporate fundraising efforts behind powerhouses Constellation Energy, Legg Mason and Wegman’s.

“This event allows us to have fun, meet the community, and raise money for an amazing cause. It doesn’t get much better than that,” said Tony Roussos, Vice President of B&R, who looked on as his employees took the plunge.

Special Olympics Maryland represents more than 6,500 athletes and supporters and provides year-round sports training and competition opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Since the plunge started in 1997, it has raised more than $20 million for athletes and their programs all year long. This year’s plunge efforts raised $1.7 million.
